Lyons Firefighters had a busy week last week (week of March 13th) responding to a total of 8 emergency calls. From 3 structure fires, 2 vehicle accidents and 3 FP (Fire Police). Only one of the FP calls for hazardous roadways assisting PSP (Pennsylvania State Police) with closing Noble St between Lyons Boro and Bastian Rd, due to blowing snow drifting on the roadways. A total of 3 calls were in Lyons first due area. The other 5 were mutual aid calls.
Early this morning at 0349 Lyons firefighters were awaken to assist Company 46 (Kutztown) on a structure fire on West Main Street in the Borough. The Engine with a crew of 5, and the Utility with a driver responded. The utility closed down Main St at Noble St, while fire personnel and apparatus operated at the fire. Engine 35 was instructed by Kutztown Command (Chief 46) to hit the hydrant. While engine 35 was hitting the hydrant, command called and stated they would not need us to hit...
Lyons was dispatched to assist Oley at a working barn fire on Hill Church Road in Pike Township. Upon arrival the crew was in a man-power pool until needed for hose-line operations to foam down the structure. Lyons was one of many companies called in to assist. The structure was used to house racing pigeons and an attached garage was destroyed along with a four-wheeler. The structure was destroyed.All pictures attached are courtesy of Rick Bugera.

Lyons fire crews cut tree up and moved to side so road was again made passable.
While returning from tree down on Fredericksville Road the crew on Utility 35 came across a wire down on Smoketown Road. Investigated what the wire was for and removed wire from street after reporting it to Telecomm.
Chief came to a tree across the Fredericksvile Road at Smoketown. He requested Utility 35 to respond with chain saws. Rest of crew and apparatus stood by at station.
Lyons crews were dispatched to assist Topton with a possible structure fire - smoke in residence on Henningsville Road in Topton. Source of smoke was a sump pump problem.
Crews were dispatched for branches on wires at Shweitz ad Five Points Road in Rockland Township.
Crews were dispatched to Kutztown University Golden Bear Village S. for a structure fire which turned out to be an oven fire. Lyons was recalled.
Lyons crews were dispatched to an automatic fire alarm on Sheephill Road in Rockland Township. Due to ice storm there were problems with the electric. Crew returned to station.
Crews were called to assist at a motor vehicle accident with injuries on Lyons-Fleetwood Road in the vicinity of Weaver's Hardware.
Fire Police were called to aid PA State Police with traffic at a motor vehicle accident with no injuries at Lyons Road and Weaver's.
Crews were dispatched to assist Kutztown Ambulance at Kutztown University for a respiratory arrest. Kutztown Fire Co. was tied up on another call.
